What is Ramayana Kalpavrksam?
A 3 day festival of arts and scholarship – Ramayana Kalpavrksam, curated by Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant, brings on one stage, music and dance performances, talks and scholarship to celebrate our revered Itihasa Ramayana, the essence of what is Bharat.
The 3 day Ramayana Kalpavrksam festival has been curated as a veritable mosaic of scintillating performances, wide variety of performing arts, ranging from the classical to the popular, thought provoking talks, and workshops on rare arts; a canvas that has something for everyone and every age group.
The festival birthed in 2023, has already seen 3 successful editions; with the 4th edition now in 2026

A distinguished Odissi danseuse, Smt. Sujata Mohapatra inherited the devotion for the classical form as the disciple and daughter-in-law of the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. An outstanding artist, her lifelong adherence to Odissi is evidenced by her global performances and a multitude of prestigious accolades, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and an honorary Doctor of Literature degree. Preetisha Mohapatra, the next generation's rising star, continuing the exquisite Odissi legacy of her grandfather, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.

Sandeep Narayan is a celebrated Carnatic musician and vocalist, known for his melodious voice and emotive performances that connect with modern audiences. Though born in Los Angeles, California, he made a first-of-its-kind "reverse migration" to India in 2006 to pursue his music full-time. His career has earned him major recognition, including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, a Juno Award nomination for the album Arul in 2024, and an invitation to become a GRAMMY® Voting Member in 2025.

Founded in 1952 by Shanti Bardhan, The Little Ballet Troupe pioneered drawing ballet inspiration from folk traditions, emphasizing collective artistry over individual stardom. This legacy continues as the Ranga Sri Little Ballet Troupe, which is known for its unique puppetry-themed style of performance and boasts an impressive repertoire of 36 full-length ballets.

Bhungar Khan Manganiar, a recipient of multiple prestigious awards including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, continues a seven-generation Manganiyar musical tradition, having performed his group's magic in over 45 countries. He actively preserves this disappearing folk music heritage by training the next generation through his 2007 institution, Dharohar.

1st February, 6:30 PM - 7:15 PMProf. Shrinivasa Varakhedi is a distinguished Sanskrit scholar, academic administrator, and current Vice-Chancellor of Central Sanskrit University, recognized for his expertise in Indian Knowledge Tradition and Computational Linguistics.
An author of over fifty books and publications, he was conferred the Maharshi Badarayan Vyas Samman (2007) for his significant contributions to Sanskrit education and traditional knowledge systems.

1st February, 7:45 PM - 9:30 PMCarnatic 2.0, led by music producer and iPad performer Mahesh Raghavan, is a pioneering band that brings Carnatic music into the modern age. The ensemble features the dynamic violinist Shravan Sridhar, the soulful vocalist Sharanya Srinivas, and the rhythmically sensitive mridangam and konnakol artiste Akshay Anantapadmanabhan accompanied by Mylai Karthikeyan on Nadaswaram and Sunil Kumar on Tavil.
Together, they deliver a contemporary take on traditional Carnatic music, infusing it with electronic elements while adding an Indian classical twist to popular songs from today’s pop culture.

Ananda Shankar Jayant
Festival Curator
Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant, is celebrated as one of India’s leading classical dancers, choreographers and dance scholars.
With an acclaimed and intense body of work that spans rich mythologies, historical chronicles, searing commentaries on topical issues, philosophical enquiry, poetry, story telling, and humour, Ananda, constantly stretches the boundaries of artistic endeavour, using the grammar and idiom of the classical dance format, making her presentations at once contemporary and evocative.Engaging in every aspect of dance, Ananda, is a prolific solo and ensemble performer, a much loved teacher and Guru, a critically acclaimed and brilliant choreographer, and is a sought after motivational and leadership speaker and writer.
Endowed with a natural flair for team playing and organisational acumen for collaborative work, Ananda has presented some of India’s signature festivals and conferences.
A TED speaker in 2009, Ananda actively lectures on breast cancer support and advocacy issues, having successfully battled the illness herself.
